This is an attempt to surface the most relevant info for someone deciding about signing up. We’ll fill out the rest of this document once we have our roster.

When does the season start?

Tryouts and practice will start the week after Midwinter Break (week of 2/24). The first game is Saturday, 3/7.

When/where are games?

What When Where
Regular Season Saturdays, 3/7 - 5/2 Likely in West or South Seattle
Spring Reign Tournament Saturday, 4/25 and Sunday, 4/26 Burlington, WA (1 hour north of Seattle)
Playoffs Saturday, 5/9 and 5/16 Likely outside of West/South Seattle

When and where will practices be?

Team practices are still being figured out based on field and player availability. We will definitely practice at Madison on Wednesday after school since we have the field reserved until then

Does my student have to make it to all practices?

While team members are not required to be at every practice, ultimate is a team sport and needs the whole team there to practice team strategies. The baseline expectation is that players make it to at least one practice per week in order to play at that Saturday’s game. When determining which players get to play a given Saturday, we will also take into consideration practice attendance and engagement.

Does my student have to make it to all the games?

No. We know families have other activities. We’ll have a way for families to mark their attendance plans. The most important thing is to know availability in advance so we can plan accordingly. Note though that we may give playing time priority to players that don’t have other sports.

What grades?

We’re currently taking signups from 6th-8th graders. Once we know who is interested and the number of coaches, we can figure out who we can take. (See If I sign up, will I be guaranteed a spot on the team? for more info.)

Will all genders play on the same team?

Yes, middle school ultimate is co-ed/mixed. In games, Gx (female-identifying) players get equal playing time to Bx (male-identifying) players.

Do players need to have previous experience to be on the team?

Not necessarily. The baseline requirement is to be willing to learn, work hard, do one’s best, and have fun. The rules of the game and skills will be covered at practice and in supporting emailing/videos. That said, depending on who signs up, we may have to adjust our roster (see If I sign up, will I be guaranteed a spot on the team?)
